One year ago, after the January 6th riots, many Republicans, Mike Pence, Mitch McConnell and Liz Cheney among them, made the calculation that the riots would be the end of Trump’s influence in the Republican party. They were wrong.

While Trump’s approval within the Republican party hovers around 80%, largely unchanged since riots, Pence’s, McConnell’s and Cheney’s have all plummeted to the 20-30% range. Despite his faults, the voters trust Trump more than his foes.
