1) Top liberal FIRED after profane voicemails

The New York Times has fired an editor at its Wirecutter website for leaving expletive-laden voicemails with a gun rights organization last month.

The outlet announced the dismissal of Erin Marquis Friday, more than two weeks after she first made headlines for her rage following the Nov. 30 school shooting in Oxford, Mich. that left four students dead.

“Hi, I’m a journalist with the New York Times,” Marquis said. “I’m just calling to wonder – I have two questions. How do you sleep at night? And aren’t you just a bit worried that there might be a hell? And when you meet God, he might send you there? That’s just my only question. The third question, the only people politicizing this seems to be you because you’re the only people I got a f—ing press release from.

“Again, I am from the New York Times, and I’m letting everyone in the New York Times know what kind of f—ing a–holes you are,” she added. “Congrats on being a laughing stock.”

In a second message, Marquis raged: “You f—ing ghouls. I hope that there is a God in heaven so he judges you when you die.”

2) Democrats are trying to reverse course on crime – but they can’t. Hugo Gordon writes:

That screeching noise you hear is not just the sound of Democrats wailing over their collapsing popular support. It is also the squeal of their tires as they race away from their anti-law-and-order policies in hope of avoiding an electoral smash against reality. They’ve suddenly realized that — surprise! — there aren’t as many voters for murder and industrial-scale smash-and-grab thievery as there are for combating those increasingly prevalent crimes.

In an astonishing reversal, San Francisco’s mayor, London Breed, launched emergency police intervention in the city’s crime-wrecked Tenderloin district . This is the woman who cut police and sheriff budgets by $120 million to pander to 2020’s Black Lives Matter rioters. The decision brought a rain of ruin down on her metropolis, and now even its left-liberal residents have had enough.

Breed’s rhetoric has, if anything, changed even more dramatically than her policies. Announcing a 180-degree turnaround, she said, “It’s time to rein in criminals who are destroying our city. … And it comes to an end when we take the steps to be more aggressive with law enforcement, more aggressive with the changes in our policies, and less tolerant of all the bulls*** that has destroyed our city.”

It would take Houdini to escape the bind that Democrats have put themselves in after allowing, indeed warmly welcoming, a large phalanx of extremists into their midst.

3) It’s time to abolish Covid Emergency powers. Glenn Reynolds writes:

COVID is over. Oh, not with Anthony Fauci. Not with the media. Not with the sour-faced Karens who have enjoyed the sense of meaning — and power — it’s given them. But with normal people, especially outside the big urban areas, it’s over.

Meanwhile, the powers that be have revealed themselves to be dishonest and inept. Fauci lied about masks at the beginning. Andrew Cuomo sent COVID patients into nursing homes (it made money for his contributors), which caused thousands of elderly people to die. Scarcely a day goes by without some bigshot — California Gov. Gavin Newsom, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Anthony Fauci himself — being found breaking his or her own rules on masking, social distancing, etc.

School kids are forced to eat their lunches outdoors and wear masks while adults gather in bars, restaurants and sporting events. The entire COVID apparatus is collapsing under the weight of its own absurdity.

It is. And now that it’s over, we need to claw back all the power seized by various institutions in the name of emergency. And when that’s done, we need a searching inquiry into how the power was exercised — an inquiry with consequences.

It’s time.
