Nancy Pelosi is the Speaker of the House, and has been in Congress for decades, so you’d think she’d be held to a high standard of integrity.
Then again, as we all know, Pelosi and many other “public servants” in Congress are only there to enrich themselves. A stunning new investigation by Business Insider confirms that scores of Congressmembers from both parties, including Pelosi, are involved in conflicts of interest, if not outright corruption.
Some of the highlights (or lowlights) of the report:
- 8 members of Congress and 182 senior-level congressional staffers who have violated a federal conflicts-of-interest law.
- Nearly 75 federal lawmakers who held stocks in COVID-19 vaccine makers Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, or Pfizer in 2020, with many of them buying or selling these stocks in the early weeks of the pandemic.
- 15 lawmakers tasked with shaping US defense policy that actively invest in military contractors.
- More than a dozen environmentally-minded Democrats who invest in fossil fuel companies or other corporations with concerning environmental track records.
The hypocrisy is a feature, not a bug.
Members of Congress profit richly from their “service” and dare us to do anything about it.
At the very least, the report points to a strong need for term limits.
