Former attorney general Bill Barr expects no Durham charges against Obama

Former Attorney General Bill Barr on Friday reiterated a claim he made nearly two years ago while still in charge of the Justice Department and overseeing Durham’s work under then-President Donald Trump delivering a message that:

Expect former President Barack Obama to dodge being charged in special counsel John Durham’s criminal investigation into the Russia investigation, which dates back to 2016.

“He’ll bring the case if he can prove criminal acts beyond a reasonable doubt. I don’t believe they’ll enlist the help of someone on Obama’s level ” In reply to her inquiry, Barr told Fox Business host Elizabeth MacDonald.

Durham is currently embroiled in two active prosecutions, both of which are taking place in public, but so far the investigation’s charges have only been leveled against a former FBI lawyer, a Democratic lawyer connected to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, and the main source for British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s anti-Trump dossier.

Durham, a former U.S. attorney who is now a special counsel in the Biden administration, is scheduled to issue a report, according to Barr.

“I believe he will go over everything that has transpired. He might be able to prove some things beyond a reasonable doubt,” he remarked, later adding, “people can read what happened, and even if you can’t prove it beyond a reasonable doubt, I think most Americans will understand what’s going on.”

Trump has already lambasted Obama over “Obamagate,” accusing his predecessor and top national security officials of undermining his campaign and government.

President Joe Biden, Obama’s vice president, has been dragged into the fray for his role in a small Oval Office meeting where the FBI’s intercepts of retired Lt.

Gen. Michael Flynn’s conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were discussed, as well as being listed as an authorized recipient of unmasking intelligence on Flynn.

Barr continues to cast doubt on the investigation into Trump’s ties to Russia. He dubbed the investigation and “collusion” storyline a “manufactured scandal” in a recent Fox News interview. However, he has long questioned whether Durham will conduct a criminal probe into Obama and Biden.
