British pop star Tom Parker of ‘The Wanted’ fame dead at age 33

British pop star Tom Parker died Wednesday at the age of 33, less than two years after he was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.

Known to the world as a singer for the band The Wanted, Parker leaves behind a wife and two young children.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we confirm Tom passed away peacefully earlier today with all of his family by his side,” his wife, Kelsey, posted to Instagram on Wednesday. “Our hearts are broken, Tom was the centre of our world and we can’t imagine life without his infectious smile and energetic presence.

“We are truly thankful for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we all unite to ensure Tom’s light continues to shine for his beautiful children. Thank you to everyone who has supported in his care throughout, he fought until the very end,” she added. “I’m forever proud of you.”

According to a post from The Wanted, Parker was also surrounded by his bandmates when he passed away.

“Tom was an amazing husband to Kelsey, and father to Aurelia and Bodhi,” the band wrote on Instagram. “He was our brother, words can’t express the loss and sadness we feel. Always and forever in our hearts.”

Parker had announced his glioblastoma diagnosis in October 2020, according to People.

He said this past November that the cancer was “under control.” However, TMZ reported that “Tom was recently confined to a wheelchair while undergoing cancer treatments at a clinic in Spain, which specializes in his particular type of brain cancer.”

On social media, users mourned Parker’s death and commemorated his legacy:

Parker’s band, The Wanted, formed in 2009 and achieved significant success in the coming years, ultimately selling 10 million records.

“Stateside success came in 2012 with the breakout hit ‘Glad You Came,'” which was a top-three Billboard hit in the U.S., Yahoo reported.

“A year later, the group starred in their own E! reality series in America, The Wanted Life. During their career, the Wanted were nominated for 14 World Music Awards, two Brit Awards, an American Music Award, and a MTV Video Music Award.”
