As Putin ramps up his attacks, Russia destroys a maternity facility in southern Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian officials, on Day 14 of Europe’s greatest invasion since World War II, the Kremlin ramped up the terror.

On Wednesday, Russia launched an immoral attack on a maternity hospital in southern Ukraine.

According to video and photographs from the scene, the strike on the medical center in Mariupol, a besieged city on Ukraine’s southern shore, caused a massive crater in the ground outside the hospital, blew out windows, tore apart buildings, and drove shell-shocked patients fleeing.

The result was a dystopian sight, with debris flakes floating like snow over a deep canyon of blown-in dirt. Nearby structures resembled shattered concrete skeletons, while the fire blazed in the charred remains of an automobile.

According to Pavlo Oleksandrovych Kyrylenko, the governor of the Donetsk region, at least 17 people were injured in the incident, but the entire extent of the casualties was not immediately evident. On Facebook, Kyrylenko declared, “Russia kills civilians!”

Serhiy Mikhailovich Orlov, the deputy mayor of Mariupol, said he was having problems comprehending the attack. “We don’t comprehend how a bombing of a children’s hospital is feasible in modern life,” he told the BBC. “It’s hard for people to accept it’s true.”

An Associated Press photographer captured a horrific image of a pregnant woman being taken on a stretcher outside the destroyed medical center, one of more than 30 targeted by the war, according to the Ukrainian authorities.

The tragedy at the Mariupol maternity ward was the result of a direct Russian aerial strike, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, and infants were trapped beneath the rubble.

“Atrocity!” On Twitter, Zelenskyy pleaded with Western countries to impose a missile-stopping no-fly zone over his country, a measure they have resisted, fearful of triggering a third World War.
